Solution Summary
The Pharmacy Application was written as a Swing Application that limited the ability to introduce new functionality. The team re-architected key portions of the application which facilitated moving critical pieces into Rest Services. This greatly expanded their options to expand on both the UI side and the back-end side.
An imaging project further reduced the time it took to fill a prescription. This reduced the average time required to fill a prescription to 4 minutes from about 7 minutes; a 42% increase in throughput using the existing resources.
Technologies employed include the fundamental Java Stack. Modernization efforts moved to a Spring-Boot with restful services, and later using scalable vector graphics in the image processing to significantly improve performance.
The project lasted just over 3 years, adopting a philosophy of continuous improvement delivering regular product upgrades on an interactive schedule.
